Review of the training for youth of the project “Healthier and Safer Youth Life”

Adolescence is a time of great challenge when it comes to adapting to changes in oneself, family, and peer group. In the current education system students constantly face with a variety of challenges. According to the World Health Organization, one in five adolescents has cognitive, emotional and behavioral difficulties, and one in eight adolescents suffers from diagnosed mental disorders. The most effective way to take care of adolescents’ health is to run and develop prevention programs in schools where adolescents spend most of their time. The training was conducted by lecturer Evelina Vainoriene. The training covered overweight and obesity, its impact on health and quality of life, and the causes and threats.

Birzai district municipality:

On April 6, 2022, preventive training on suicide and self-harm conducted by psychologist Zaneta Tauriene was held at Birzai Ausra Basic School. The training was attended by 20 participants. The training covered the psychology of crises, the main aspects, stages, statistics of suicide, what is suicide? Self-harm of children and adolescents, risk of suicide in children and youth. What is the best help? How can I help myself? True and false suicidal vision (myths and facts).

Anyksciai district municipality:

On April 29, 2022, at Jonas Biliunas Gymnasium and June 10, 2022, at Anyksciai district Toskunai Kazys Inciura Gymnasium psychologist Neringa Bernatoniene conducted training on depression. The training was attended by 37 participants. The training focused on the mental health of children and adolescents, the source of depression, its main causes and signs. During the training children were told about possibilities of help, taking care of their emotional help, they performed self-knowledge and awareness-raising tasks. Children were also provided with recommendations for individual work.

On May 6, 2022, psychologist Karolina Puzinaite conducted training on sexual violence topic at Antanas Baranauskas Basic School. The training covered the origins and causes of violence against others, the concept and forms of violence, signs of violence by type of violence, recognition of sexual violence, prevention of inappropriate behavior in the school environment, response to school violence, strengthening of psychological resilience and trafficking in human beings. How to help yourself and others in the case of sexual violence. The training was attended by 22 participants.

On May 9, 2022, preventive training on the use of psychoactive substances conducted by Dovile Navikiene was held at Anyksciai District Kavarskas Basic School. During the training children were told about addictions, harm of using psychoactive substances, strengthening their sense of value by building personal confidence. Children watched the therapeutic film “How to Say No”. The training was attended by 16 participants.

Kedainiai district municipality:

On April 12, 2022, at Kedainiai District Seta Gymnasium and on April 14, 2022, at Kedainiai District Josvainiai Gymnasium preventive training on overweight and obesity-related health disorders was held. The lecturer introduced 7 basic human needs. During the training video material and its discussion were provided. Children were taught to manage stress according to Eden method. The training was attended by 44 participants.

On May 31, 2022, at Kedainiai Rytas Progymnasium, on June 2, 2022, at Kedainiai District Academy Gymnasium, and on June 7, 2022, at Kedainiai Sviesioji Gymnasium, preventive training on eating disorders was held. The training was conducted by lecturer Evelina Vainoriene. Students were given information about eating disorders, 6 types of hunger, causes of eating disorders and how to avoid it. During the training video material and its discussion were provided. Children were taught to manage stress according to Eden method. The training was attended by 76 participants.

On April 8, 2022, at Kedainiai Truskava Basic School lecturer Dovile Navikiene conducted the prevention of the use of psychoactive substances.
